We were contacted by clients a with a wooden kitchen which was starting to show signs of wear and tear and was also beginning to look a bit dated. On inspection of the kitchen, we found that the glue had broken down on some of the doors allowing the joints especially to open up. The client wanted to achieve a contemporary update while still retaining the traditional look of the kitchen; the colour choice and the design of the new handles would certainly allow us to achieve this. Labelling
The first stage was to label all doors that were to be removed and worked on in our workshop; this makes it easer to refit the doors on completion. Additionally at this stage that we do the heavy filling and sanding to achieve a key for the primer. We used a shellac based primer on this kitchen mixed in the final colour which not only gives great adhesion, but will stop any tanning from the timber coming through. The primer is left to fully dry giving the perfect base for any fine surface filling that is needed, it is then rubbed down to give a smooth flawless finish ready for applying the top coats.
The final finish!
The clients had opted for a satin finish. This was achieved by applying Helmi 30 by Tikkurila which when applied correctly, gives a beautiful flawless satin finish. The remainder of the kitchen went through all the same processes as the doors. The final stage was to refit all of the doors, fix the new handles and remove all of the protection.
