Painting of a badly sprayed kitchen in Islington, North London

Kitchen cabinet painter Islington: A blog by our kitchen painter in London Martin King.

I was contacted by clients Chris & Sarah who had a beautiful house in Islington, North London, with a bespoke newly installed kitchen. It also came pre-primed in white, and after a few discussions on colours they decided on Christmas Wreath by Colourtrend – a striking dark green. hand painted kitchens London

To get the best possible finish you have to dismantle all the doors and drawers, removing all handles and also hinges, making it very easy to prepare and paint the doors to get the perfect flawless finish. The next step is to take it back to my workshop to prepare and paint. hand painted kitchens London

Unfortunately the primed units had been over sprayed by the manufacturers and had lots of runs in all the doors and drawers too. I removed the runs by using 240 grade sandpaper with my Mirka sander, which was connected to my extractor to absolutley keep dust to a minimum. This is without a doubt essential when working in a residential environment and also in any workplace.

Once sanded I filled the imperfections with an epoxy resin filler. The system I use to paint any kitchen involves applying three coats; a primer and secondly two finishing coats. Even though the kitchen came pre-primed it was really important to also use an adhesion primer which was also colour matched to help achieve a deep finish. The foundation of any well painted kitchen is the primer layer.Kitchen cabinet painter Islington

The clients opted for an eggshell finish. To achieve this I use Mirka Gold 1000 grade sandpaper between each coat. This in turn gives mechanical adhesion between paint layers.

Any skilled cabinet painter using the system above will achieve a flawless finish. As you can see by the below photographs the results speak for themselves.

Green and stone looks stunning!

This colour without a doubt enhances the look of this fabulous kitchen. It ties in especially with the exposed stonework
